The Brain-Gut Connection: How Your Brain and Gut Health are Intertwined
Have you ever heard of the “second brain”? It’s not what you…
By choosing an ADHD specialist to help treat ADHD, you are utilizing a non-invasive and drug free form of treatment. However, Dr. Paul can work with children or adults who are already medicated by a prescription through their medical doctor.
A trained functional neurologist, Dr. Paul serves both as an chiropractic adult ADHD specialist and chiropractic pediatric neurologist with speciality training in ADHD. He will locate neurological issues and recommend the comprehensive functional neurology treatment plan for each individual patient.
The treatments for Autism, ADD, and ADHD can vary with the patient but some tried and true therapies have been shown to be very effective with treating ADHD. At Austin Functional Wellness, our treatments for all forms of learning disabilities are grounded entirely in Functional Nutrition and Functional Neurology, hence our general Functional Healthcare Approach. Dr. Paul trained under Dr. Robert Melillo, DACNB, developer of the Brain Balance Centers located throughout the U.S. Dr. Paul’s treatment programs are not protocol based but instead individualized to each patient’s specific needs.
Therapies used at Austin Functional Wellness aim to strengthen weaker neurological pathways in either the left or right side of the brain. Often the weaker side is the right side of the brain, where gross motor function, focus, attention, and impulse control are located. Under- development of the right side and under-connectivity between the right and left hemispheres can be major contributors of ADHD.
Our treatment strategies work specifically to engage the weakened neurological pathways in both the left and right side of the brain, to address stress factors influencing brain development, lessen systemic inflammation (often the cause of delayed maturation of neurological systems), and generate better neurochemical (neurotransmitter) conditions for brain function and development.
As one of the best pediatric ADHD specialists, Dr. Paul is able to determine the parts of the brain, cerebellum, brainstem, and vestibular system that are deficient and create a treatment program that is specific to your condition. This is done through functional neurologist ADHD testing.
We have a variety of therapies but only choose the ones that will work best in reducing your symptoms and improving the function of your nervous system. Some of the common therapies we use include Interactive Metronome, Neuro Sensorimotor Integrator, Cerebellar training (balance and coordination of movement training), rehabilitation of rudimentary reflexes aka Primitive reflexes, Oculomotor training (eye movement exercises including tracking, targeting, gaze holding, and optokinetic stimulation), core muscle strengthening (gross motor vs fine motor), color and light therapy, and music therapy among others.
We also offer comprehensive functional neurologist ADHD testing, supplements and nutritional counseling when appropriate. We believe testing for food sensitivities is a very important part of a comprehensive evaluation of someone who might have ADHD. Genetic and micronutrient testing are also keys to uncovering why neurological development has been delayed.
